Polyamory

Polyamory:

Polyamory means "loving more than one," and is arelationship style (and style of living) involving the creation of "intimate networks" of friends, partners, and lovers. It is also referred to as "responsible non-monogamy." Polyamory is NOT "cheating," as the basic premise of poly is praticitioners are involved with others with the knowledge and consent of all partners. Successful polyamory requires a high level of integrity, honesty, and communication. Nor is polyamory the same as "swinging," as poly relationships generally have an emotional attachment.

from Polyamory and Sexual Healing

by Dr. Deborah Taj Anapol, Ph.D.

Compulsory monogamy is the brain child of a sex negative philosophy which holds sexuality to be sinful, disgusting, and evil. In keeping with their eagerness to denigrate the Feminine, the early Church fathers viewed celibacy as the most spiritual option, but realizing that it would be impractical, if not impossible, to make celibacy the norm, they opted for the next best thing. Their teaching was to have as little sex as possible with as little pleasure as possible and only with your lawful mate. In contrast, a sex positive belief system would recognize sexuality as a form of worship, in which women's and men's bodies, pleasure, fertility, and life itself are
celebrated. Sex would be recognized as a means of  entering higher states of consciousness and directly experiencing the Divine. Erotic ritual would be valued as an _expression of love and a powerful means of bonding the entire tribe or community. In a sex positive culture, polyamory would be seen as a contribution to society rather than an immoral act.
